Swami Gangeshananda (Dwijen Maharaj) was born at Burdwan (West Bengal) in 1892 and was a disciple of Holy Mother Sri Saradadevi. He joined the order in 1915 and had sannyasa from Swami Shivanandaji in 1923. For four years from 1916, he served as joint Editor of the Bengali journal Udbodhan.
He served as the Private Secretary to Swami Shivanandaji Maharaj (Mahapurush Maharaj), the second President of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math, for a long time. He founded the Ramakrishna Ashrama at Kalimpong and was the head of this centre for some years and later was posted as the head at Delhi.
He passed away on 1 January 1970 at the age of 77.
